Update

What a summer it has been! I haven't been able to keep up with any of the things I planned. I thought we would do some fun unit studies, play math games, and read aloud some chapter books. Even after I found out we were moving, I still thought we'd get to do some of those things.

In mid May, we moved into a temporary apartment. The next week we had our things packed and put into storage. We ended up staying in the apartment for a little over 4 weeks. I thought I could at least get some planning done while were stayed there, but then I ended up having another miscarriage.
Our packers weren't very good at labeling boxes or putting them in the correct places so the unpacking has been more difficult than usual. They also seem to have just shoved things like posters into boxes. Our living room TV suddenly stopped working a couple weeks after we moved. We had a terrible death in our family that resulted in an unplanned trip to Kentucky. We came home from that to find the refrigerator had stopped working. Then we took a trip to Maine, which had been planned before we knew we were moving. After being gone for 9 days, we came home to a smell coming from the garage that was so horrible I could smell it in the driveway. The very full freezer in there had stopped working sometime while we were gone. It apparently happened not long after we were left because everything was hot and nasty. The garage still smells terrible.

Everything hasn't been bad this summer though. We are all very glad to be living in this area again. We lived here from 2007-2009. We've been so excited to reconnect with old friends. There are also lots of kids on our street and they all like playing together outside. It was nice seeing family in KY, especially some we hadn't seen in a long time. The trip to Maine was great! Colin went to hockey camp while we were there and he just loved it. We'd never been to Maine so we liked seeing a new place. The kids loved the beach and the lighthouses. We also loved the cool weather. On the way home, we stopped for a couple days in New York City, another place none of us had been. We also had a great time there. I'll be posting more about our trip soon.

Needless to say, I haven't finished unpacking and the school room isn't ready. I haven't bought all the books we need for this year. I actually haven't even chosen all the things I want to do yet.

Even though I'm not even close to being ready, I'm glad school time is coming and hope we can get back to a normal routine soon.

  2. I think you should take your time getting back to school. Back to a routine, yes, but don't stress yourself out trying to have all the school stuff ready by some arbitrary date. It sounds like you've really been through a lot and need to give yourself plenty of time and patience :)
