First Day |
The Three Rs
Most of this week we've been reviewing. RightStart Math has review sheets throughout the book. Each one has two different versions. I only have them do one of the sheets. Colin and Caleigh have been doing the other version of the review sheets this week. Molly has started on level B. It has a lot of review so we're moving through the beginning quickly.
We also did some Hershey bar fraction math and some graphing with M&Ms to go along with our unit study.

Colin and Caleigh reviewed the Spell to Write and Read phonograms and rules and took a placement test. I'm introducing Molly to the phonograms she doesn't know. On Friday, we played phonogram bingo with M&Ms.
Colin and Caleigh reviewed lowercase cursive letters. Molly reviewed writing numbers and capital letters (printing).
Science
We started using Exploring Creation with Zoology 1: Flying Creatures. We did the first lesson on what is zoology. We learned how animals are classified, about flight, habitats, instinct, and extinction.
We did an experiment to see how air pressure works.

We also experimented with glider design to see how lift works.

Unit Study
We've had a lot of fun this week with our chocolate unit study. Our main resource has been the Download N Go, Chocolate Challenge. We also used the chocolate unit study from Homeschool Share. We've learned about where chocolate comes from, how it's made, types of chocolate, and famous chocolatiers. We've sampled different kinds of chocolate and went on a fun field trip to see some chocolate being made. To celebrate the end of our week we had a fondue party and watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I'll have more about our chocolate unit study in a separate post soon.
Everything Else
Colin and Molly had their second tennis lesson. Colin had his first practice for his travel hockey team. We spent an afternoon at our neighborhood pool. Friday we met friends for our homeschool park day.
What a wonderful first week. We love chocolate math.
