2011-2012 Curriculum

This year I will have a 6th grader, 3rd grader, and 1st grader. We will continue to do quite a bit of school all together with some different expectations for each of them depending on what they're capable of doing.

Colin: 6th grade

Math
RightStart: Geometric Approach
Life of Fred: Decimals and Percents
Lial's Basic College Math

Language Arts
Spell to Write and Read-  He has finished all the lists, but will be reviewing phonograms, rules, and reference pages. He'll also be doing some of the grammar and writing activities in it until January when he starts some new stuff (see below).
English from the Roots Up
Dance Mat Typing, Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing
The following won't be out until January. We'll be using some things we have and online resources for grammar and writing review for the next couple months. Then we'll start using the PDFs she has provided that includes the first several weeks.
Writing with Skill
The Creative Writer
Advanced Language Lessons

Logic
A Case of Red Herrings
The Fallacy Detective

Caleigh: 3rd Grade

Language Arts
Cursive First (review lowercase, learn capitals)

Molly: 1st grade

Math

Language Arts
Handwriting Without Tears: My Printing Book and Printing Power
Spell to Write and Read (we will slowly start switching over to this starting with learning all the phonograms)

All Together

History
(We will either stop or slow down with history in April to start a study of the Little House on the Prairie series going through at least the summer.)

Science

Foreign Language

Art
Draw Write Now (to go along with whatever else we're studying)

Music

Geography
We'll be concentrating on the U.S. states this year. For right now, I plan to do a state at least every Friday. I'll post our plans and the resources we'll use soon.

Unit Studies
We'll be doing unit studies that go along with the history or science we're studying. We'll also do them some just to do something different. Most of what we'll use is the following:

Activities

Colin will play ice hockey on a travel team. Once that season ends, he will probably do roller hockey in the spring.
We will go to the monthly homeschool days for rollerskating and also hope to make it to some of the weekly homeschool days for ice skating.
We are going to some plays at the Children's Theater.
Molly will play basketball starting in October.
All the kids will take a homeschool tennis class.
I'm waiting for Colin's hockey schedule to come out before we commit to anything else.
We already have some field trips planned and will meet our homeschool friends for park days on Fridays.

Lots of decisions to make when it comes to curriculum, huh? I haven't heard of some of your choices. I always love to hear about what others use and like. I'll be sure to come back and read more! :) Thanks for coming by my blog yesterday!

We use many of the same curriculum! It's nice to see how others are getting on with the same materials. Thanks for coming by my blog!

By the way, I love your schoolroom! I wish we have a dedicated room like that.
