State Study: Maine

Since we visited Maine for the first time in August, I decided that was the state we would begin with. It's too bad we can't visit every state as we study it. It was really neat to see the things we read about in our books.

While we were in Maine, Molly saw a lobster and sailboat cookie cutter set she wanted. We used them to make sugar cookies.

Our Visit to Maine

This is my final post about our trip to Maine so it's just a hodgepodge of pictures.

I've already posted about visiting the Maine Wildlife Park, going to a chocolate factory, and seeing the beautiful lighthouses.

This was at the top of the kids' list of things to do when we were planning. They just had to see the moose.

This is where Colin spent most of his time during our week in Maine. I was worried he would feel like he was missing out if we did things with the girls while he was at camp. He was so excited to go to camp every day and was sad when it over. He just loved it.

Maine Lighthouses

We got to visit two lighthouses on our trip to Maine.

Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth

Portland Head Light is the oldest lighthouse in Maine. We took the girls here one day while Colin was at hockey camp. They thought it was so nice that they insisted we take him back to see it. So we went another evening so he could see it and so we could get some family pictures. This is where all the pictures in the header at the top of the page were taken.

Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse

We visited the beach and then walked over to see the lighthouse. The kids loved the walk out to get to this lighthouse. I think it was one of their favorite parts of the trip. It made me a bit nervous though.

Chocolate Factory- Maine

On our last day in Maine, we had a little time to kill after lunch before picking Colin up from hockey camp. We stopped at Wilbur's of Maine Chocolate Confections to let the girls look at the candy. When we got there, we found they had an event going on where you could make your own peppermint patty bugs and butterflies. We all put on hair nets and the girls each made two different creatures.
